RESULTS FOR THE FUN SHOWJUMPING & BBQ DAY 3rd JUNE

On Saturday 3rd June we held our fun jumping show at Street Farm, Burham by kind permission of Wendy Neath.

The glorious weather encouraged plenty of people to turn up and Jo Cottee and Karen Newman were kept busy all morning organising the clear round. With the emphasis very much on “fun” competitors were able to choose the height of their jumps and so it proved to be a valuable confidence building morning (I don’t think the Whittakers need to start worrying yet!). AREA HORSE TRIALS – 21st MAY

We sent 8 riding club members to the ODE at Ardingly this year –

A team of 3 in the Junior Novice Section

Jack Sharp riding Buddy, Harriet Fairhurst riding Dusty and Briony Gifford riding Rebecca

A team of 3 in the Senior Novice Section

Melanie Jones riding Drifter, Rachel Morphey riding Gilwill and Marion Bush riding Karen Newman’s Chester

And 2 individuals in the Senior Intermediate Section

Melanie Jones riding Shaun and Michelle Yeo riding Mallow.

Unfortunately all 3 Juniors encountered problems on the XC course with Jack and Harriet’s horses deciding they did not want to get their feet wet at the water jump (even though it was raining heavily throughout the morning!) and Briony in the excitement of her first event jumped a wrong fence in an otherwise perfect round.

So no rosettes for the Juniors but a valuable experience and some bright stars for the future.

The Senior Novice Team had mixed fortunes, Melanie was delighted with an individual 6th place with her youngster Drifter and had it not been for two fences down in the SJ, would have been placed in the top three. Marion also had a good day finishing 2nd on Chester who at 18 years old managed to post one of the best dressage scores of the day – 29.6 % (Marion was horrified at the score until someone pointed out to her that lower scores in eventing dressage!). Unfortunately, Rachel had some problems on the XC and was not placed but overall was pleased with Gilwill’s performance and went home with renewed intentions to practise jumping ditches!

Melanie’s good form continued as she rode the experienced Shaun to achieve an impressive 2nd in the more challenging Intermediate Section. She was really pleased with the way that Shaun tackled the XC course – although he is a reliable showjumper he has not done much XC to date. Definitely a partnership for the Open Team next year.

Michelle’s team debut didn’t quite go to plan as they were brought to a halt after the second XC fence with a loose horse on the course. Following a long delay Mallow had lost her concentration and after a couple of refusals they were out of contention for a rosette but went on to complete the course confidently.

A huge thank you to Peggy Skinner, Jill Skinner, Meryl Hicks, David Ingram and Sheila Palmer who braved the awful weather to fence judge. It is a condition of entry that clubs send people to help at Area events so our volunteers are a valued and essential part of the team. Well done to everyone who took part – we hope you enjoyed your day.
